Graphic Design sites want these main things
- Good Work
High Quality work that helps the site be well known and requested from. Graphic Design sites are in a VERY competitive world, and they want the BEST designers possible to work for them.
The more requests, the happier they are.
- Availability
Sites will not hire someone that only works one day a week (unless they are impeccably fast and very good at their work).
Yes, we are aware that you do have school, life, work ... whatever distracting you from being online, but they hired you because they would like you to make graphics for them.
They would like to be able to rely on you to make graphics for the requester to not wait such a long time to pick up, if not they will cancel the request and go elsewhere.
- Contact
When you send your email to a site, asking to be a staff member, you will get emails from the webmistress.
You have to know that much.
Always responding to messages and emails can sometimes be a bore, but they have to know that you are there and ready for any and all requests that people have made.
If you do not respond, they can become fussy and irritated at the fact that you haven't responded, you don't even have to send emails, you can just write a note on the cbox or shoutbox.
Just let them know you're alive.

If you can definitely say that you can do all these things, go ahead and apply for jobs. If not, work hard at them and make sure that you can do these things, least you be fired or blacklisted.
