Fonts
~
When choosing fonts for your graphics, it can also be a very frustrating job.
Main titles fonts are usually based on how the overall poster looks like, and is therefore the LAST thing that you do.
There is no way to tell you what font suits what, and therefore is a matter of trial and error. A few things that you should be aware of when choosing your font is...
~ Does it suit the theme?
~ Is it clear and easy to read?
~ Is it an appropriate colour?
~ Have I used more than 2 different types of font?**
You should also be aware of a few other things whilst writing out the titles...
- Spelling
A main mistake, if you know that there are spelling mistakes, correct them if you wish, although the person requesting has every right to choose their own mistakes, you might want to make one with their spelling, and one with correct spelling.
- Credits
Credits on the poster shouldn't be the main object of the graphic. Do not draw attention to it, but just be very subtle.
Using staple fonts such as [arial], [times new roman] or [courier] to credit the poster is a very simple and subtle way as to credit the poster.
- Placement
Obviously you wouldn't want to have writing all over the faces of the characters of your graphic, because you wouldn't know who they are.
Try and move the text around and see what's more pleasing to the eye, change the size, font and colour until you are happy with it.
Quotes and Credits can be found anywhere. Near the title, near the characters, on the border, it's up to you where you place them.
- Quotes
Be careful with quotes, as they sometimes cause trouble (especially if they are long-winded, if you wish you may select only a small excerpt of a quote, but you should be aware of this sort of thing before you start).
** this seems to be a very big problem with designers. Remember, LESS IS MORE, so don't try and impress us with your large array of fonts, look at your posters fonts, and see if they clash. If they do, change it.
Hint: Search for font on websites, that you can download them from, choose suitable ones that you can also use on other posters as well.
